College students volunteer at a huge range of sports events every year in Wales working as organisers, officials, coaches and players. In 2014/15 FE students provided a staggering 30,000+ hours of volunteering in the community. Volunteering can take place as an individual or as part of project, activities can involve students providing specialist coaching or just helping out at an event.

A great example of students volunteering was at the recent WCS Ladies Football festival in Merthyr. The entire event was organised by students from The College Merthyr Tydfil who booked the facilities, organised and officiated at an event involving 13 teams and 140 players. Despite some pretty awful weather on the day the students’ enthusiasm shoe through and the event was a major success.

Many students also work towards highly-regarded volunteering awards through the Millennium Volunteers programme.
